Dr Robert Pierson

Dr. Bob Pierson

Dr. Bob Pierson, founder and Executive Director of Leadership Nexus Foundation served as Senior Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK for 37 years. During his tenure, he and his wife, Delia, grew the church from an attendance of 200 to over 1600, and established the largest singles ministry in the state. He was also instrumental in founding The Large Church Initiative of the United Methodist Church and served as its chairman for 14 years. In addition, Dr. Pierson served as chairperson of Mission Evangelism for the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, in addition to chairperson of multiple boards and committees of the United Methodist Church in Oklahoma. Recently, he served for many years as the Executive Director of CUGM, an ecumenical organization created by Dr. Robert Schuller.

Bob started his higher education at the University of Oklahoma, but due to financial issues had to transfer to Northwestern State University in Oklahoma where he received his bachelor’s degree in history, psychology, and sociology. He then attended Phillips Theological Seminary earning his Masters of Divinity. While serving a church in Stillwater, Oklahoma he began work on his doctorate at Oklahoma State University in the area of administration and the behavioral sciences, and completed that while serving Christ UMC in Tulsa.

Through his many years in ministry, Dr.Bob (as he is known by many) has perfected his own “needs-based” approach to evangelism. He has traveled the country and overseas teaching this unique and effective outreach model. Based on the ideals presented in the Good Samaritan story, Dr. Pierson has helped churches and organizations of all sizes develop truly helping ministries, making them more effective in reaching new people for Christ. He has written three books on evangelism, Needs-Based Evangelism, TELL and A 4-Month Evangelism Planning Guide. These books are great for churches concerned about outreach or individuals wanting to share their faith.

Perhaps the biggest evangelism work Dr. Bob has done is when he spent 8 years taking teams of various Christian professionals to Russia beginning in 1992 to plant the message of Christ and begin churches. Each team brought needed and desired supplies along with Russian bibles to give to people who had not heard the gospel. Several churches and many new Christians exist in Russia today due to his efforts.

Bob and Delia have six adult children and five grandchildren most of whom live within a half hour of them. So there are many family gatherings for birthdays, holidays and just for fun. Just the immediate family is a group of 18-20! Bob has enjoyed nurturing a vegetable garden, doing household projects and repairs and at one time was also building and selling houses while preaching at Christ Church! He has been a man of high energy and passion for what he sees as God’s mission and will for his life.
