Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our founder, Rev. Dr. Robert Pierson, after a prolonged illness.
Dr. Pierson founded Leadership Nexus in 2006 and served as Senior Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 37 years. During his tenure, he and his wife, Delia, grew the church from an attendance of 200 to over 2000 and established the largest singles ministry in the state.
He was also instrumental in founding The Large Church Initiative of the United Methodist Church and served as its chairman for 14 years.
During his ministry, Dr. Pierson served as chairperson of Mission Evangelism for the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, in addition to being the chairperson of multiple boards and committees of the United Methodist Church in Oklahoma. Recently, he served for many years as the Executive Director of CUGM, an ecumenical organization created by Dr. Robert Schuller.
Dr. Pierson attended the University of Oklahoma and Northwestern State University. He graduated from Phillips Graduate Seminary and received his doctorate in psychology and organizational administration from Oklahoma State University.
The Woodward, Oklahoma native is an author of two books, Needs-Based Evangelism and TELL.
Dr. Pierson’s family were by his side as God called him home. He is survived by his devoted wife, Delia, and their adult children, Cheryl, David, Jill, Becky, Sarah, and Jamie. He will always be remembered for his generous heart, passion to equip Church leaders, and for his love of God.
Please keep the Pierson family close in prayer during this difficult time. Services are set for Monday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Rev. Jessica Moffatt presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ministries of the Leadership Nexus Foundation.
